Behind the Wheel - May 12

The April meeting of membership for MNW is in the rear view mirror and we are speeding towards the month of May. With a show and Pony Trails in Port  Angeles, our very own Spring Into Summer event and the momentum just grows from there.

As a result of my misunderstanding one of the changes that were scheduled to take place at the April meeting did not take place. I thought that MNW owned the computer, projector and related equipment to present the slide show at the meeting. My mistake we do not own a computer dedicated to that purpose. I’ll be working on a solution so that in May the slide show portion of our meeting will return in part.

Our guest speaker for April was one of the founders of the company Convertibles Only. Les gave us a complete run down of the firm and explained the firm’s wide variety of capabilities. As part of his wrap up he answered questions and provided valuable information about the care of not only convertible tops but traditional vinyl tops also.

Your fellow members and the Executive Board have been busy recruiting speakers to make your meetings and membership both interesting and more valuable. In May we have a speaker from the car stereo and phone industry scheduled. Everything you ever wanted to know about modern sound and communication devices. I know I’ll be wired into this one as I am looking at the GPS packages that are now available. No more of that lost in the Mustang feeling for me.

As our Judged Committee continues to impress all of us in June Bob Doran is going to provide the membership with the details of Modified Cars and how to judge those vehicles.

Speaking of Bob Doran he was the winner of the April edition of the President’s Award. Bob’s name was drawn from the list of every paid up membership and by being present he won the remote controlled silver Must GT 500, and a huge package of batteries to allow him hour upon hour of fun. That makes two months in a row that the President’s Award has been won. Want to join the list of winners?  Pretty simple be in attendance at the meeting and if your name is drawn you carry home the award.

As I write this in the afternoon of the Sunday after our last General Membership meeting I am quite disappointed to report that I still do not have any volunteers for Tack Shack.  Saturday my email in box had several emails detailing new questions or asking about how the Supreme Court decision on searches related to the club.  Not a single volunteer or even an inquiry about running Tack Shack.   Would say I won’t beg for two volunteers but I have already begged for two months.   MNW is in no position to pay anyone to run our meager little store.   As I pointed out look at the members wearing one or more hats already. Look at the number of couples that are serving on the board or in some capacity with Round Up.   Folks the get out and get it done group is saddled with all they can handle.   It is time for some new people to step up and take on a portion of the workload.   Right now you would have two months of “hands on” training plus full support the first three days of Round Up.   Your first day of being solo behind the counter would be on Sunday at Round Up.   This little adventure is a big part of our Round Up Profit and Loss statement every year please step up and make it a success this year.   Seriously without a couple of people taking this on the booth will be empty.

Sitting down front Friday evening I can tell you that the noise level from the group was quite loud at some points.   Please be kind and courteous to all speakers.   For some people this is a major accomplishment and they are overcoming a major fear.

A member that we had not heard from for some time Mynor Holmgren not only returned from his travels but brought two very special gifts for MNW to enjoy.   He presented the club with two gorgeous photographs that he took of Sunrise while in Key West, Florida.   They are simply spectacular and we will pass them onto our club Historian for safe keeping.

Hope to see the majority of our membership at the next General Membership meeting on 11 May and by all means everyone is welcome at the board meeting.   The Board meeting will take place on 14 May at Fire House 22 in Kirkland and starts at 7 PM sharp. Come out and contribute your input to the Board.

As always feel free to call, email, write or simply grab my arm when you see me. Open to all ideas and I really do enjoy hearing from the MNW membership.
