Car of the Month - Aug 11
Barb Alvarez’ 92 GT Mustang 5.0

I always liked Mustangs, and when our oldest son bought his first car, of course it was a Mustang, and then I really had to have one, so I began looking for just the right match for me. I began looking in earnest in 1994 for a GT fox body 87-93, which really caught my eye. I had several color choices in mind, and it had to be a GT, so the search was on for the right one. In August of 1995, my son Dave called me and told me about a blue two-tone 92 GT Mustang 5.0 at the local dealers. I was down there in a heartbeat, and when I saw this car, I knew it was the one for me. It was previously owned by someone who took really good care of it, and I was able to contact him, and found out that it was a daily driver and was never kept in a garage or carport. It had a little over 70,000 miles on it, and was never in an accident, which I confirmed with his insurance company. After having it checked out and finding that it indeed was in A+ condition, I bought it.
Now it had a new home, but no garage or carport. So in order to keep it in the best condition meant a lot of hard work. To me, it was worth it. Again, it became a daily driver, which now has over 217,000 original miles, and I really enjoy keeping it as stock as possible. I have added a strut tower brace (which I even notice the difference in handling), flowmaster exhaust (love that rumble), white gauges (for better visibility) and of course a car alarm system. The engine remains stock, as well as the rest. It has not been in any accidents, thank God, just rock dings and minor scratches from careless people not watching what they are doing.
I still get 25-28 mpg freeway which seems good for the mileage I have on it (217,000+) I enjoy showing my car and letting people know that they can have a daily driver and still have a show quality car. I have shown my car since 1995 and it has been to Mustang shows in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and several other cities up in Canada. It has also been to shows in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, California, Wyoming, Utah, as well as all over Washington State. It was also displayed with 5 other fox bodies from Mustangs Northwest in the Seattle Roadster Show in 2007. What a rush!
I think that one of the nicest things I ever received was a receipt for valet parking with "NICE CAR" in capitol letters written on it. It is fun to have heads turn when you start the car up in a parking lot or they wave, honk and give you a thumbs-up on the road. You know then that you have done a good job taking care of your car and it is appreciated by others.
It came loaded with the Power Equipment Group: Included power lock group with door locks and remote hatch release. dual electric remote-control mirrors, power side windows.
