GUIDELINES FOR JUDGES
Before judging begins:
- Check in with Head Judge upon arrival at the show
- Bring clean, dry rag and your MCA number (if you have one)
- Attend judges meeting; await judge team assignments
- Go with your team leader to your judging location
Before judging a car, make sure it is properly displayed:
- Windows rolled up
- Doors closed, trunk open
- Hood open (except Daily Driver)
- Convertible tops up
- Remove floor mats (they are not judged)
- Remove all items in trunk
- Early model cars: remove spare tire cover (jack & spare tire are judged) otherwise all points may be lost
Preparing to Judge a car:
- Introduce yourself to the owner (if present)
- Be familiar with judging forms and MCA/MNW rules
- Never judge a vehicle that you helped to build or restore
- Never let prior knowledge of a car affect your judgment REMEMBER: the car always gets the benefit of the doubt
- Assign someone to be in charge of the clipboard (scribe)
During judging:
- Disagreements: never argue in front of the car's owner
- Head Judge is always available to settle disagreements
- Never deduct points for what you THINK is incorrect
- NEVER deduct half a point (1/2)
- Never drink or eat food while judging a car
- Establish a good, steady pace
- Never smoke around the car you are judging
- Keep a safe distance between yourself and the car
- Watch for belt buckles, jewelry, etc. that can scratch
- Never touch the vehicle (unless given permission to do so)
- Judges may touch only doors, hood, and trunk lid
- NEVER get in or sit in a car that is being judged
- Refrain form visiting with friends and car owners while judging
- Car owners are not to talk to judges during judging
- Always respect the car owner and the vehicle
- Judges are to be fair, consistent, and impartial
- Never make derogatory remarks about a car
- Your comments/actions reflect on MNW & the judge team
When judging is finished:
- NEVER tally the points!!!
- Be sure the judging sheets are complete and signed by all judges
- Turn in the judging sheets to the Tally person
- Inform the owner when you are finished judging
