“Mystery” Car of the Month
- Story Submitted by the GHOST WRITER
It seems only appropriate that with Halloween just days away that the Pony Express could at last document the finding of a car that many did not believe existed for several years. Sure, MNW members would see one or the other of the owners with a car—but every time these two would tell a different story.
Our beloved President once called these two MNW members his “Dynamic duo.” Some of us nicknamed them the “Diabolical Duo” for their repeated flip-flop of cars and owners—even to the point that the general opinion was there was only one car between the two of them.
So here is the story—Mike Godwin was supposed to own a 65 Mustang GT Coupe. Lori Bagley supposedly owned a 66 Coupe. Not a big deal. Seems Lori’s car was always in need of something and so she did not drive it often. Mike on the other hand, drove his car quite frequently. That was also a no brainier. Then they started the “ras matas” of “whose car is this today”?
The original excuse was that Mike was on travel for his job and Lori was entering his car in shows. Well, then we noticed that the car we thought was Mike’s was quite often driven to meetings by Lori more so than Mike. Next, came the car that Lori said was her car and no Mike to be seen. Burgermaster photos started appearing on Kevin’s web site, as in more than one picture. One time a GT car, the next time a car with no stripes. But in both pictures, a smiling Lori. Where was Mike? If there really is two cars, where was Mike?
The rumors were abundant. Especially when the Diabolical Duo claimed that in August of 2007, both cars were at the Brian Miller Memorial Bowl and Shine show. Funny... Mike won an award, but no one can recall Lori bringing a 66 Coupe.
At last, this past August at the Bowen Scraff show, we did see both Lori and Mike with two very different cars side by side. The 1966 Coupe owned by Lori is Tahoe Turquoise with a deluxe interior. The 65 GT owned by Mike is Dynasty Green and equipped with the GT package. Side by side, we can tell you that these two cars are both simply wonderful examples of how they rolled out of the show rooms.
So Lori and Mike - THANKS for the many years of mystery!
Seems the only mystery left is when the Pony Express will receive an input from Lori for Car of the Month!
